Our class went birding on thursday 25 1996. We were very good at spotting
birds. Especially for a rainy day. On a soccer field, near a log, I saw a
bird we had not yet seen this year. I saw a male and female Killdeer.
An adult Killdeer has two black bands around its chest. An immature
Killdeer only has one ring.

We were looking for the barn owl that we saw in the winter. We couldn't
find it, except for pellets. Would it nest in the pine grove or somewhere
else?

When five of us birders went to see the Heron rockery at Sammamish Lake
Park, we saw an Osprey sitting by one of the Heron nests in the rain. If
you knew where it was, you could make out a small shape of white. Through
the telescope, you could see the mark above the eye very well. It was a
really great shot because it was the first of the year that my class and
my teacher has seen. I'm not very sure if it was a male or a female
because it wouldn't turn our way to see if it had a brown"necklace" on
the breast area. This necklace is usually on females, but not for sure. As
much as I could see through the telescope, it was a male. No rain can
keep a good birder away from birding.

Has anyone else seen the Osprey?

While we were in the car our group spotted a BAEA. Then suddenly
I spotted a (Stellar's Jay)STJA and the group spotted (Brewer's Blackbird)
BRBL, a (Bushtit) BUSH, and (Norther Flicker) NOFL. That was the
first time I have ever gone to see one bird and found many other species.

Have you ever gone to see one bird and found more bird species
then you expected?

At Marymoor we saw two WCSP white-crowned sparrows. They were only a few
feet away. One was an adult and the other was an immature. The white
crown on the adult was very distinct. Just to see what happened we played
the WCSP song and all that they did was look around, but they didn't call
to us. We also heard a YRWA it sounded nice.

Where do WCSPs nest?
