Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday August 1. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

Continuing hot weather during the week again slowed birding throughout the
state.

On July 28 the Sandy River EMPEROR GOOSE was observed again. This tame bird
remains near the Lewis and Clark State Park boat ramp near Troutdale.

Four adult and one juvenile ELEGANT TERNS were found July 29 near
Charleston. They were among a group of gulls near the Charleston Sanitation
Station number 2. Two others were at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River
near Florence the same day.

BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, RUDDY and BLACK TURNSTONES, WANDERING TATTLER, and
SURFBIRDS showed up along the coast during the week. A MARBLED GODWIT and a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER were among the shorebird flocks at Youngs Bay near
Warrenton July 28.

BROWN PELICANS and HEERMANN'S GULLS were moving northward in good numbers
during the week.

An adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in the farmlands east of Sutherlin July 29.

Tuesday August 6 is Birder's Night at Portland Audubon. Meet in Audubon
House at 7:30 P.M. for the latest birding news, including some photos of
the Kentucky Warbler.

Thats it for this week.
