Dear Frances,

Saw your request for information on Western Washington Canada Goose population
management on Tweeters.
Moving Canada Geese to Eastern Washington (in the past) is more than a rumor.
Several thousand were rounded up and shipped off in years past. Eastern
Washington discovered the reason for the "generous" offer and no longer wants
to receive more geese.
Addling or covering eggs with mineral oil has been performed for two years
now, I believe.
The person I would recommend you talk to is Donald Harris of the Seattle
Department of Parks and Recreation. He has been involved with the area-wide
group that's been studying the issue and implementing the programs. His number
is: (206) 684-8018
Also, the latest development is that killing "urban geese" is being considered
seriously. If you're interested I can copy and send you an article that
appeared in last week's Eastside Week under the tile: "Goosed". While the
article by Mark D. Fefer contains some factual errors (as in: Green Lake's
algae are mainly attributed to water fowl and water fowl is the sole cause of
"swimmer's itch"), it's a good summary of the past few years of this issue.

Hope this helps,
Sincerely
Martin Muller, Seattle
