Regarding our(NOAA HazMat) oystercather observations: We observed at least
one pair per each of about 15 shoreline sites we visited (out of about 20).
Some pairs with one or more juveniles. The biggest group was 7 at the
most oiled site - the marsh in the Bay of Isles, Knight Island. I use the
word "common" meaning "frequently occurring", with no connotation about
abundance (numbers). In this context, oystercatchers were the most
frequently occuring shore bird during our June 28-July 7 survey.
