Hi Tweeters! [The nations BEST birders newsgroup!]

Deb and I will be travelling from Port Townsend through the San Juan
and Gulf Islands by private boat and Klepper kayak. We're leaving Colorado
Saturday morning Aug. 10, and plan to be on the water by Wednesday. (Yahoo,
a real vacation at long last!). I haven't been to the Puget Sound and
Vancouver Island since 1979, and the San Juans will be new to us. We'll
have 2+ weeks to cruise and paddle from one bay to another, but probably
most inland excursions will be limited to short hiking, bus or bike trips.

I was hoping to get some tips from someone familiar with birding the
area, about special locations, species expected, and perhaps, related
natural history issues. Any places we shouldn't miss? Most Pacific
Northwest species will be new to us. Puffins, auklets, Pileated
Woodpeckers, oh my!

Cheers!

P.S.: I am also interested in locating and photographing a dipper nest
very near salt water.
