I agree with Kelly McAllister. Carp, especially the introduced triploid, have
had a negative impact on waterfowl breeding and wintering areas.
A prime example of this is Silver Lake near Mt. St. Helens. It used to
be a good place for trumpeter swans to winter as well as many other waterfowl.
Since the introduction of carp by WDFW, swans have not used the lake and other
species numbers are reduced. As a breeding area it has been substantially
impacted.
It is my understanding that the carp planting issue is now being debated
by WDFW. Still, the impacts continue and little appears to be happening to
restore wetland habitats for wildlife (frogs, waterbirds, etc.).
