Why did I ever subscribe to Tweeters?! You guys are driving me nuts
with your talk about salmon running here and there and pelagics with
dall porpoise and ocean sunfish and petrels and murrelets. Jeez!

At least I can feel smug about Common Grackles, which you dudes get
excited about. Farmers are cutting grain back here and huge flocks
of Grackles descend into the stubble to eat grasshoppers. Ha! you
people got salmon and poisonous newts, I got Grackles. Coming out my
ears. From dawn to dusk, singing their rusty-hinge song. Grackles
and more Grackles. Did you guys know that Grackles, turned slowly on
a spit over a birch-log fire, are delicious? Huh? And you've heard
of Black-bird pie. Well...guess the main ingredient!

O.k., kidding, just kidding. We may be primitive back here but we
don't eat Grackles. Most of us, anyway. However, I have some
relatives....

We'll be in Westport, WA most of September, beginning about the 10th.
Anyone birding that area stop by the Harbour Resort and I'll show
you a photo of a whole flock of Grackles. Or better yet, let's go
birding. We've been there before and know the area somewhat, but
could use some local expertise. Espicially pelagics. CHEERS
