We headed up to the Fort Flagler-Oak Bay area to bird this afternoon,
and while the shorebirds were in plenty:
~100 western sandpiper
8 greater yellowlegs
3 semipalmated sandpiper
4 killdeer
9 long-billed dowitcher

There was a muchbtter sighting at the mudflat lagoon at the oak bay
side of the park before you cross the bridge (its on the port ludlow
Rd. before you turn towards Fort Flagler), the bird that was seen was
a imm. black-legged kittiwake. It was preforming a interesting method
of feeding as well with the bonies, while standing chest deep in the
water it would stomp its feet up and down apparently stirring up food
for it would reach into the water and grab the rewards of its effort.
I guess an unsual species sighting deserves and unusual behavioral
sighting.
