This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Dave Copeland saw a single BURROWING OWL near Umatilla, Oregon on
August 10. The bird was along US 730 1.2 miles east of the "McNary
Beach" sign east of Umatilla. Oregon DeLorme p. 85, A7.

At Mann Lake near Lewiston, Idaho, Dave also saw about 6 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES, 15 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 1
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER on August 10. To get
to Mann Lake, take US 12 west into Lewiston, cross the Clearwater
Bridge and immediately turn left toward East Lewiston. Follow Main
Street to the blinking yellow light and turn right onto Lindsay Creek
Road. Stay right at the Y and follow Lindsay Creek until it dead ends at
Grelle. Turn left onto Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a 20 mph right
turn, turn left toward the lake. Head straight about 1.3 miles to the dead
end and the parking area. Idaho DeLorme p. 54, A1.

In extreme northwestern Whitman County, Washington, Dick Johnson
saw a few good birds along WA 23 between St. John and Sprague. At
Sheep Lake on August 11, Dick had 8 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 8
BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. WA Delorme p. 72, BC-1. Just north of Ewan, at
the foot of Rock Lake, near the sportsman access, were 2 CASPIAN
TERNS. WA DeLorme p. 72, CD-3.

Many thanks to Dale Goble for maintaining the hotline while I vacationed
in the Midwest. Yup, I got to see the Green Violet-eared Hummingbird in
Michigan...

Good birding!
