I too had the problem of the starlings eating all my suet. I have both the
"v" shaped feeder and the flat bottomed one. I find the birds prefer the
"v". Last year I did have one or two starlings which managed to access
these feeders. I can't remember which one, so I will be watching this year.
This was one time that I couldn't curse them because it took so much work
for them to get on there. It was quite fascinating to watch and they are so
greedy that as soon as one managed to make it on to the feeder, another
(envious?) starling would generally knock it off.
