This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for August 15,

Tony Greager reports a female BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD and 2 male RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRDS at his Kennewick feeder on August 3. This has been an
especially good showing (of hummingbirds) this summer.

On August 5, Nancy LaFramboise and I (Bob Woodley) found the following
shorebirds at the Yakima Delta: KILLDEER, 9 AMERICAN AVOCETS, GREATER AND
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, WESTERN
and LEAST SANDPIPERS, 12 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
That evening Nancy and Bill LaFramboise added 1 SANDERLING and 2 COMMON TERNS.

Bill LaFramboise also noted an EARED GREBE on WNP-2 sewage ponds on August 4.

Dale Litzenburger observed a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH in his Burbank yard on
August 7 and a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD on the following day.

Mary Lilga, reporting on August 10, also found RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES in
her Richland yard on that day and all of the previous week.

Also on August 10th, Ruth and Larry Fischer drove up Badger Canyon into the
Horse Heavens and found a pair of GRAY PARTRIDGE with 5 young in a freshly
plowed field.

Today, Nancy LaFramboise reported 7 BLACK TERNS just upstream from the boat
launch on the Yakima Delta. It is unlikely that they will remain.

Finally, I had a WILSON'S WARBLER in my yard this morning, the vanguard of
the warbler migration. Start watching for new arrivals now.
