Dear Tweeters

The Tweeters community will be glad to learn that three
local high school students (namely, Alex Sidles, Alex
Reinhart, and Tommy Adams) have been pulling purple
loosestrife at the main pond ("Stuart's Pond") at the
Montlake Fill. This work is in fulfillment of their high
school's community service requirement.

This loosestrife removal project is proceeding with the
knowledge and support of the Director of the Urban
Horticulture Center, who has deputed a graduate student to
advise and teach the high school students about the ecology
of the central pond area.

The coming week has loosestrife removal tentatively
scheduled for 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, Wednesday, and
Thursday. I'll post to tweeters again if there are any
changes in this schedule (which often happen).

We would particularly enjoy hearing by email from other
high school students who are interested in planetary
ecology and who might want to yank a few stems with us
(address email replies to sidles at u.washington.edu).

The rest of you tweeters, be sure to say hello if you visit
the central ponds and encounter us "yankees". We think
tweeters people are among the nicest and most committed
folks around.

Finally, I would like to thank my wife Connie Sidles for
her energy and committment in getting this project launched
so successfully, and in particular her ability to gain the
knowledge and approval of the Urban Horticulture Center.

Happy birding to all tweeters! ... John Sidles
