This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for August 26,

On August 17, Dennis Rockwell found the following shorebirds on the McNary
National Wildlife Refuge, at the pond along Highway 12 at mile 300: 1
BLACK-NECKED STILT, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 7 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 6 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 STILT SANDPIPER, 2 COMMON SNIPE, and
20+ WESTERN SANDPIPERS. Also on August 17, he found a MACGILLIVRAY'S
WARBLER along the nature trail in Two Rivers Park. And on the following day
along the nature trail, he found 1 female WIILSON'S WARBLER, 1 female
WESTERN TANAGER, and 1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH.

Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise found a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE in Ruth's
Richland yard on August 15. And on August 19, they observed an AMERICAN
BITTERN near the McNary National Wildlife Refuge headquarters and a GREAT
EGRET, a BLACK-NECKED STILT, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, several LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS and WESTERN SANDPIPERS at the pond along Highway 12 at mile 300.
Ruth also noted a BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD, a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, and a
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD at her feeder on August 19.

On August 22, Ruth and Nancy found 2 NASHVILLE, 2 ORANGE-CROWNED, and 1
YELLOW WARBLER, and 1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH on Bateman Island.

On the Yakima Delta on August 24, I (Bob Woodley) observed 2 GREAT EGRETS, 1
AMERICAN AVOCET, 7 GREATER AND 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 SOLITARY, 5 SPOTTED,
62+ WESTERN and 6 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 1 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER. Nancy
LaFramboise noted that 1 of the SOLITARY SANDPIPERS remained on August 25.

This morning, August 26, the Yakima Delta yielded 4 GREAT EGRETS, a
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS, 6 GREATER AND 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, many WESTERN AND LEAST SANDPIPERS and at least 3
BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS.

Mike Denny just called to relate that the Walla Walla Delta hosted many of
the same birds plus a RUDDY TURNSTONE and 5 SANDERLING.
