Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday August 28. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

The COMMON GRACKLE continues to be seen at the Toketee Ranger Station. It
is most often seen early in the morning, and is missed some days. Call
Keith Graves at (541) 498-2508 for the latest information.

The main fall movement is now underway. The most obvious migrants continue
to be the shorebirds, but the puddle ducks are becoming more regular.
However, a surge of inland and coastal jaeger sightings have provided much
of the excitement during the week.

An adult LONG-TAILED JAEGER was observed flying up the Coquille River at
Bandon August 25. Among the large number of shorebirds at Bandon that day
was a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER. Among the very large number of shorebirds at
the effluent ponds along Horsefall Beach Road on the north spit of Coos Bay
that day were two RED KNOTS.

A flock of 14 COMMON TERNS and an ELEGANT TERN were near the mouth of the
Siuslaw River near Florence August 25. The day before three PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS were among a swarm of shorebirds along the Siuslaw River east of
Highway 101.

A POMARINE JAEGER was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River August 21.
Two GOSHAWKS were there the morning of August 28. The large flocks of
CASPIAN TERNS gathered there moved out during the week.

Sauvie Island remains slow with high water and quiet woodlands. A WESTERN
KINGBIRD was along Stafford Road in Lake Oswego August 27. A SOLITARY
SANDPIPER was among the shorebirds at the Forest Grove Ponds August 24. A
PECTORAL SANDPIPER was there the next day.

An AVOCET and four WILSON'S PHALAROPES were at Baskett Slough NWR August
27. An immature SHORT-EARED OWL was there the next day. On August 28 an
immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in the Cascades at Santiam Flats near
Detroit.

A BLACK PHOEBE has been at the E.E. Wilson SWA north of Corvallis most of
the week. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was there August 27. An immature LONG-TAILED
JAEGER was at the Philomath Sewage Ponds August 25. Among the many
shorebirds at the Creswell Sewage Ponds August 24 was an AVOCET.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was near Wamic in Wasco County August 24. A RED-NECKED
GREBE was at Haystack Reservoir near Madras August 23. An immature
LONG-TAILED JAEGER was in Bend August 27. A PARASITIC JAEGER was at Diamond
Lake in the Cascades August 24.

Among the many birds at Summer Lake Refuge August 24 were two MARBLED
GODWITS and a RED KNOT. Two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and three MARBLED
GODWITS were at the White Lake Unit of the Lower Klamath NWR August 21.
