Sorry -- There are rules for determining the four-letter codes. Once
those rules are applied, two species might end up with the same code.
The fully unambiguous rule states that BOTH codes must change when they
collide. In the "Birding" article, the proposal was to keep the code
for the "common" species and change the code for the "uncommon" species.
Of course, the author defined "common" based on likelyhood to be seen
East of the Mississippi...
