There was a Common Loon at the Ballard Locks this morning (12-9-96) just
west of the large locks, 5 feet from the west gate. It stayed on the
surface about 20 seconds, then dove and I never saw it again. Also in the
same area were 4 female Common Mergansers, about 10 Double-crested
Comorants and a flock of 16 Barrows Goldeneyes that seem to make the
locks their winter home. Plus the usual gulls and geese.
