This is Dale Goble with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, December 13.

I am sitting in for Kas who finished his dissertation defense today and
though that he might want to do something other than record this tape
tonight.

Dan and Ila Svingen spent Saturday, December 7 in the Lewiston area.
At Mann Lake the found a DUNLIN, a LEAST SANDPIPER, and a dozen
KILLDEER in addition to TUNDRA SWAN, both SCAUP, and the usual
hordes of Canada Geese and ducks.

The female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER which has been in the Levy
Pond was instead on the river toward the Blue Bridge. Both species of
SCAUP were in the West Levy Pond and there were scads of BARROWS
GOLDENEYE by the grain terminals.

Marcus Roenig and Glenn Bolyn found many of the same species at
Liberty Lake Park south of I-90 east of Spokane. Among the 250-350
COMMON MERGANSERS and 30-35 HOODED MERGANSERS on the
lake was a single female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER. They also saw
an adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK while being serenaded -- if that it was
nuthhatches do -- by all three species of nuthatch: RED-BREASTED,
WHITE-BREASTED, and PYMGY.

On December 8, Shirley Sturts, Kris Buchler, Bill Gundlach, Theresa
Potts and Don Stoecker, found a MERLIN in the Coeur d'Alene City Park
-- in the top of tree near the North Idaho Museum. The found a first-
winter GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL at the Ramsey Transfer Station. Two
COMMON LOONs were on Mica Bay.

Shirley also reports a SPOTTED TOWHEE coming to her feeder on
Fernan Lake.

On December 9, Shirley Sturts, Kris Buchler and Don Stoecker watched
3 BLUE JAYS at the feeder of Lee and Clifford Streltz north of Hayden
Lake. The birds have been coming to the feeder since November 15.
There were four coming but lately just 3 have been showing up. Three
or four Jays also continue to be seen daily in north Moscow.

Finally, Nancy Miller has been having CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES
at her feeder on Four Mile Road north of Moscow.
