An additional note to the Protection Island clean-up posting:
In addition to the excitement of simply being on the island and in the
prime habitat for so many species, the unparalled high point of the trip
was observing the magnificently constructed Double-crested cormorant nest
from close range. These incredable structures, interwoven with sticks &
mud, maintain their integrity against the winds & rain on the ridge line on
the south side of the island. They truely leave one with awe &
appreciation
