The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the 12 most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

7:14pm 12-15-96: Bruce Lavar 206.272.1058 Today at American Lake I saw the
adult LITTLE GULL that had been reported prviously. It can be reached by
taking I5 to the Camp Murray exit. Head west until the road ends, turn
left on Portland, look for the sign that says "boat/fishing pier" or "boat
launch", go to the lake and look out, and it's out there with the
BONAPARTE'S. Good luck and good birding.

9:41pm 12-15-96: This is Jeff Wizzman(?) in Spokane 509.924.6327 This may
not be of interest to west-siders but there's technical difficutlties with
the Moscow RBA, so I'm calling to get this on the record. There's been an
adult MEW GULL frequenting Riverfront Park on the Spokane River in
downtown Spokane. I've seen it there December 1st, 14th and the 15th.
There's also a female BLUE-WINGED TEAL which is a little out of season.
It's in there with all the MALLARDS. It's been there since at least
December 3rd, although I had seen it a couple miles upstream.

3:29pm 12-16-96: Hi this is Mike Donaghue in Seattle at 527.2859. I just
wanted to report that the BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was still on Foster's
Island just the other side of the footbridge in the clump of pine trees
that are off to the right at about 2:40 this afternoon. Thanks.

4:36pm 12-16-96: Hi this is Jim Flynn at 206.772.5568. Yesterday Scott
Downes and I were birding at the Big Ditch Access just north of Stanwood.
In addition to one SNOWY OWL there was also a SWAMP SPARROW at the end of
the trail on the south side of the marsh. If you go through the gate and
take a left going south through the trees, follow the trail to the end of
the trail where it reaches the water and the bird was at the edge of the
marsh there. Also up at the skagit wildlife management area the WATER
THRUST and at least one WHITE-THROATED SPARROW were present. Thanks a lot,
bye bye.

6:32pm 12-16-96: Hello this is Patrick Sullivan reporting from Tacoma,
Washington to erase the previous report. The gray-phase GYRFALCON at
Staggerwald National Wildlife Refuge in Clark County was again seen today
at 10:15 am along State Route 14 just east of Washougal. Also in Clark
County at Vancouver Lake County Park, 4 RED-THROATED LOONS, 1 SURF SCOTER,
and 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were observed. At Horseshoe Lake on the
Cowlitz/Clark County line, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL was observed in a flock of up
to 2 WESTERN GULLS and good numbers of HERRINGS, THAYER'S and CALIFORNIA
GULLS. Also at Horsehoe Lake 1 RED-NECKED GREBE was observed. Along Dike
access road and the mouth of the lewis river, up to 2 GREAT EGRETS were
observed along with 4 RED-THROATED LOONS and 2 PACIFIC LOONS.

10:17pm 12-16-96: Steve Dang 368-6687 Today in Richmond Beach County Park
in North King County was a NORTHERN FLICKER hybried. The bird was
essentially a yellow-shafted flicker but with a red mustache instead of
black. Also two male EURASIAN WIGEONS in with a flock of AMERICAN WIGEONS
at Bitter Lake which is in North Seattle.
