Subject: New LISTSERV ID-Frontiers

There is a new LISTSERV, ID-Frontiers, devoted to topics related to advanced
in bird identification. The charter and instructions for subscribing=
follow:

ID-FRONTIERS =97 FRONTIERS OF FIELD IDENTIFICATION

ID-FRONTIERS is a mailing list on listserv at listserv.arizona.edu for
birdwatchers interested in the frontiers of field identification.
Postings on any topic related to advances in bird identification by
species, population, age and/or sex are appropriate. There are no
geographical restrictions.

The listowner is Will Russell, wings at rtd.com . Chuck Williamson,
cwilliamson at pimacc.pima.edu, set up the LISTSERV and provides technical
oversight.

SUBSCRIBING TO ID-FRONTIERS

To subscribe to ID-FRONTIERS, send an e-mail to
listserv at listserv.arizona.edu and in the body of the message (not the
subject line) include:
sub birdwg01 your name

For example, if I were subscribing, I would write:

sub birdwg01 will russell

Note that the last two characters in "birdwg01" are numbers, 01, not the
letter O and the number 1.

You should receive a response within an hour from the listserv which you
need to read and reply to as instructed. This procedure will confirm your
email address back to the listserv. If everything in this automated
process goes well (and it usually does), you will be subscribed to list and
will receive all the submissions to the list at your email address.

PROBLEMS?

Problems with subscription or questions of a technical nature can
be sent to the listowner at BirdWG01-request at listserv.arizona.edu

POSTING TO ID-FRONTIERS
Currently, postings are to ID-FRONTIERS are restricted to subscribers.

send a post, address your email to birdwg01 at listserv.arizona.edu You will
receive a confirmation if your posting was successful.

READING ID-FRONTIERS ON THE WEB

ID-FRONTIERS can currently be read on the web at
http://www.pimacc.pima.edu/~cwilliamson/weeknnw1.htm . This web site
includes direct links to web images mentioned in ID-Frontiers posts.
Id-Frontiers will develop it's own web page for the archiving of relevant
images and sounds. Details will be posted to ID-Frontiers as appropriate.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT MESSAGES SENT TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS

If you wish to read the postings on the web and not in your email box, you
can turn off your mail from ID-FRONTIERS. You will still retain posting
privileges. To do this, e-mail listserv at listserv.arizona.edu and in the body
of the message include:

set birdwg01 nomail

This can only be done AFTER you have completed the subscription process.

A final note: In most LISTSERVs, requests for information are sent directly
to the requester rather than being posted to the LISTSERV. In the case of
Id-Frontiers, most of us will be interested in most of the replies. If the
response to your request is interesting and not privileged, please post it
to the LISTSERV.
