We have been enjoying the presence of many birds during the snow. We have
two Varied Thrushes (VATH) we see regularly, but about one month ago we had
six foraging at the edge of our lawn. The most we have ever had at one time.
Lately, the Dark-eyed Juncos have been in the majority with House Finches,
Red-breasted Nuthatches, Song Sparrows, Bewick's Wrens, Spotted Towhees,
Northern Flickers, Downy Woodpeckers, Pine Siskins, Black-capped and
Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Steller's Jays (STJA) and much to my dismay 2-4
E. Starlings have showed up (we usually don't have them). Except for the
VATH and STJA which prefer the millet, the rest prefer the peanut butter suet
or peanut butter log to either sunflower seeds or millet.

A woman called me yesterday to say a hummingbird, I assume Anna's, appeared
to be trying to get into her house. She wanted to know if there was anything
she could do for it. I suggested putting out a hummingbird feeder with a 1
part sugar to 4 parts water mixture. Does anyone else have other ideas on
what could be done to help?
