If you are planning on getting MT. Quail on your trip in Jan. let me
suggest a couple of places. Green MOuntain IS NOT ONE. They are difficult
to see but frequently heard there in the spring and summer. Access is
limited during this time of year as well. Although I have never seen them
they have been reported at the Kitsap County airport near BRemerton on
HWy.3. Also as Reported in the last WOS fieldnotes 6 were reported in june
at Tahuya State Forest in MAson County. Also the poulsbo area has had
single MT. Quail coming to feeders near FRank Raab park off and on over
the past several years (one wintered at a feeder last year). I'm sure
pierce and mason counties as well as Southern KItsap is your best bet,
Bangor SUbBase as a large population of them, but access is quite limited.
This is the extent of my knowledge on the species, hopefully other people
will share their's.
