Presently availability of water isn't a problem in western Washington;
however, on the snow days we observed many of the birds scooping up snow to
quench their thirst.

While outdoors filming the snow and broken tree branches on Dec. 29th I heard
the haunting calls of the Varied Thrushes. Many different tones, an eerie
and beautiful sound in the silence of the snow. "Our" Varied Thrushes showed
up in late October (as usual) and will remain until March. Snow is
apparently not the attractor.
