Hi Tweeters:

Yesterday, Dec. 30, on the way home from Spokane, I found a
Burrowing Owl (BURROWING OWL) on Highway 24 .1 mile east of the
Adams/Grant County line. When I passed it, it was sitting on the
snow in what should have been the ditch beside the road. As I
backed up it flew to a fence post 30 feet fro the road. My wife and
I were able to get a great look at it. I can't imagine what the poor
thing is eating. There are very few raptors in that area which seems to
show a low number of rodents.

The raptor list for the trip from Spokane to Yakima going I-90 to Hwy 395
to Hwy 26 to Hwy 24:

Rough-legged Hawk 14
American Kestrel 9
Red-tailed Hawk 8
Northern Harrier 1
Unidentified 9

That is about twice as many raptors as I saw on the same route going to
Spokane but well below my record Spokane to Yakima trip of 96 raptors.
That trip was I-90 to Ellensburg, I-82 to Yakima in about 1993.
