We also had two Varied Thrushes show up at our backyard feeder Sunday,
when the snow was deepest. First time they've come in the eleven years
we've lived here!
Coincidentally (?), it was also the only day this winter that the
chickadees didn't show up. Maybe, instead of "snow robins," they should be
called "snow chickadees"?
Many of the recent postings about them seem to be from suburban locations.
Our house is in Seattle's Wedgwood neighborhood, NE of UW. I was wondering
how many urban sightings there were last week. I notice the Seattle CBC is
up from last year, but still far below the CBC averages Gene Hunn's book
reported for the 70's and 80's. Thanks to Wallis Bolz for the posting
about them in the Arboretum, as I'd also wondered about good places to
observe them in Seattle.
