Tweeters:
I live on the southern tip of San Juan Island, fronting on Cattle Pass and
Goose Island, a wildlife sanctuary. You may already know that Cattle Pass
is a very active feeding area for marine birds of all kinds. This morning
we noted the annual return of a good sized (1000+) flock of MEW GULLS
actively working the tide rips at the North end of Goose Island. They seem
to like to stay together in large groups while feeding. The HARLEQUIN
DUCKS are also out in force, bobbing in an out of the rough water near the
shore. Goose Island has an active GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL colony (as well as
a Harbor Seal puppery) but the big guys will not start taking over the
island for some months yet. Until then, we have relative peace and quiet.

I have just signed on with Tweeters and will provide periodic reports of
the marine birds in the area.
