Stuart pointed out to me that I must not have too much against shorebird
festivals, as I'm going to be a speaker at the Kachemak Bay Shorebird
Festival at Homer, Alaska, on the weekend of 10-12 May. Yep, I'm a
hypocrite, but I couldn't resist the opportunity for a trip up there to see
our shorebirds on another leg of their journey. And I realized, when
forced to think about it, that it's easier to deal with crowds in a place
you've never been than to do the same in a place you knew before the crowds
materialized there. We wouldn't be rational beings if we didn't
rationalize, right?
