Jerry - Great Post. Brings back precious memories of birding around Houston.
I had a Peregrine entertain at Bolivar flats. I also had a Piping Plover there.
I was surprised you missed the White-tailed Kites on Bolivar Penn. (or did you)?

Next time try to make it to Jones State Forest just 10+ miles north of
Houston for the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, they are easy there.

I have never been at High Island during the "fall out". I also birded on an
extended business trip, not in April.

Why don't we (tweeters) rent a van for a quick trip to High Island the last
week of April? Maybe a 3 or 4 day weekend, driving/sleeping in shifts on the
way down and back. Splitting the costs, eating sandwiches and Snapple.
