Someone (I was too fast on the 'delete' trigger finger) recently posted
sightings and asked why there was a John Wayne Marina. John Wayne owned
land and would often escape up there to sail a lovely mahogany 2-masted
sailboat. (It's scrumptious - saw it on display in Petosky, Michigan one
summer) I don't remember if he deeded the land that was used to create
the marina, or if he actually started the marina himself.


I spotted an immmature Bald Eagle at Matthews Beach on Friday, and a co-worker
saw it there again today. I was puzzled, when I got to the shore, about the
lack of ducks. Usually there are coots and wigeons all over the place. I
heard crows making a fuss, and saw the eagle (who had just finished eating).

Locals tell me there are usually at least one adult, and frequently an adult
and an immature who 'hang out' at Matthews each winter.
