As you may or may not have heard, the thaw and rains have caused great
havoc on roads in NW Portland. Right now, water is so deep that the St.
John's bridge is closed, and Hwy 30 is closed from south of the bridge
through Linnton. Traffic is currently being re-routed at Cornelius Pass
from the North (and this road is a mess as well), and from Portland, being
turned around. Germantown Rd. was a joy at 7:15 this morning before they closed it--the sand makes the
road as slick as ice as one person found out--driving on their top
instead of their wheels. There's a river at the bottom and several
streams on the way up.
Anyway, you can't get to Sauvie Island at present, so be sure to
note this. If you're planning on going that way, listen to loca traffic
reports. RK
