When the power transformer across the way blew up with a huge bang just after
noon, so went electricity for the afternoon. So, off to Lake Sammamish State
Park only to find it closed due to high water from Issaquah Creek. Had to
park on the road and wade in as ankle deep water rushed along ALL the road
and walkways toward the Lake. I've never seen so much water in there and the
creek was raging and all the way up to the foot bridge. Not much there
though, all the common goldeneye and mergansers were busy in a feeding frenzy
at the turbulent mouth of the Creek, and one of the two male Eurasian wigeons
paddling around in the north parking lot seemed exceptionally bright in the
grey curtain of gloom. The dunlin flock (usually 100-170) still seem to be
quite happy on soccer field 3-9 across the road from the Arco Station which
is also usually the best place to see the wigeon.
