We have a feeder that hangs, suspended from a bar on a second story deck.
Many birds will sometimes sit on the deck railing waiting for a turn to
jump/fly to the feeder.

This morning I noticed a female finch hopping along the railing. She wasn't
acting typically and was crouched for a while near the feeder hop-off place.
She tried several times to make it to the feeder, and hesitated. Finally
she flew down to the ground where I couldn't see her. A few minutes later
she was back on the railing and I watched her closely this time. She was
rubbing the sides of her face on the railing and exhibiting signs that she
really could not see. I didn't see any crusting around the eye. Could this
be a salmonella incident? I'm going to take the feeder down just in case. I
was thinking that there may be a chance that it's something else which would
only effect this bird. i.e. old age, window collision. What should I do?
