I am late arriving to this discussion and I still have more to read but ...

I am wrestling with my rusty memory of days in Minot, North Dakota during the
national ABA convention when one of the workshops was on the work being done
on bringing back the tall grass praries. One of the factors that was
necessary was the bison. They understood how the bison were important in
maintaining that type of prarie. But I have no idea where my notes are and I
can't give specifics.

But I guess my point is (ah, but these points become elusive!) that there are
so many different situations requiring so many different solutions. I know I
asked at one point if they could bring in cattle and have them do the same
kind of grazing the bison did. I seem to remember that the answer was no. Of
course it couldn't be that simple. The cattle actually ate differently.

Sometimes its just too complicated.

And I have just finished reading Lester Brown's book, Who Will Feed China? I
promise you, if you read that book it'll put a whole other side to this
discussion.
