This afternoon Bill saw a sea otter in front of our house on Eld
Inlet, in southern Puget Sound. John Calambokidis, of Cascadia Research,
came out and observed it, and concluded that it was indeed a sea otter,
and by far the southernmost verified sighting in Puget Sound. He would
like to keep track of the otter's movements, so if any of you birders
looking for birds on the Sound should see the otter, you should call John at
(360)-943-7325. Bill says the side view is like looking at a roundish
white object that
appears to be attached to a piece of driftwood (which is actually the body).
The otter was last seen off Flapjack Point, drifting northward with the
tide, about 4:45 p.m.
