While in the bookstore (finally purchasing "The Birder's Companion"
<drool, drool!>), I spotted a hefty hard-cover awesome book. I think its
called "Birds of Prey," by Scholz (I think-- maybe this isn't the name.)
Anyways, the book has some of the most extraordinary close ups of living
birds (I presume injured birds in captivity) that I have ever seen. The
detail on plumage is noted and sexes are compared. All of this I gleaned
by flipping through it for a couple of seconds after seeing the price
tag: $60!
Have any of you Tweeters bought the book, and did it help you
identify birds any better? Regardless, I think I'll pick it up just to
gawk at the kestrel pictures some more...
