I put the Montlake Fill map in the Birding library on Compuserve. We
get a lot of inquiries there from people planning trips to western
WA.
SUDDENLY, and unexpectedly, I noticed the copyright! I still have
time to pull it from the library. Is there blanket authorization to
distribute the map? If not, how do I get permission? Or will copying
it be prohibited?
>>>>snipsnip<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I found this posting in today's Digest delivery. I don't know which
map Jerry is referring to. If he has got it from *my* website, the
map shows how to contact Fred and me.

Let me express my view on the use of *our* map, generally.

Fred Bird mailed me a huge map (1640x1908 dots, in 16 colors), which
I cropped, reduced heavily (to 600x712, in 256 colors), edited with
the help of some of you, and repainted completely.

The copyright marks were put there as a signal for people to contact
us if they intend to use the map otherwise than strict personally on
their own computer. The reason for this is at least threefold:

1) If we know where the map has been put for distribution,
and how to replace it there, we can ensure that only the latest
revision of the map is being offered at any time,

2) Rather than having a situation where users make and
distribute their own revisions of the map freely, it's better that
the mapmakers are notified when updates are needed, so that *we* can
be able provide everybody with the most recent information
available,

3) I don't want inappropriate maps to be distributed. A
CCLO-adapted map is not what one shall offer people wanting Montlake
Fill information in general. Contact Fred and me, and we can discuss
other editions of the map.

UPDATE ON THE "Montlake Phil" PROJECT:

I have recently written a short introduction, painted a general CCLO
distribution map, and set up a link to some CCLO monitoring
results, at

http://home.sol.no/tibjonn/phil.htm

I'm awaiting some CCLO photos by snailmail, but if others have
photos to contribute, they are welcome to contact me. Do you know of
any CCLO soundrecordings available on the net?
Or, if you have got any other suggestions, tell me!
