Hi tweeters, My wife and I have also heard Steller's jays imitating
Red-tailed hawks. It must be a fairly widespread tactic, because our
attention was attracted for the first time on Rabbit Ears Pass in
north-central Colorado and we have also heard it here in the Duvall
area in Washington. Is it an imitation (I know they are mimics), or
is it a natural call? In my experience Blue jays don't make this
call.
