One correction here--when Canon introduced its EOS line, it abandoned its
FD or manual mount. You'd have to get a special adaptor for mounting the
old style Canon lenses.

ps--a correction They didn't completely abandon the FD lens system in
that you can still buy some of that system. It's just that the new EOS
system isn't compatible with the FD system. If you do find an adaptor
for EOS-FD mounting, you would still lose autofocus and other functions.
But if you're opting for a whole new system anyway, the Canon is a good
choice.
