It's nothing to worry about for amateur use, though. And if it were
to wear out, it's simply a matter of unscrewing the ring and putting
on another.

This was a hot topic over in the newsgroups about a year ago, and
no one could dig out a single instance of wear being a problem.

It might be different with a photojournalist, constantly changing
lenses. But even they tend not to, any more - they'll have two
bodies (in case one breaks), one with a 20-35 zoom, the other
with a 80-200, and go most of a day without changing lenses
once. And we nature types with two bodies (camera, that is) tend
to just leave one on the big 'ole bird tele.

So - I wouldn't worry about it. My brother-in-law has a Rebel and
is really happy with it.
