I went out toward Vancouver Lake again today. The road is open out past
Vancouver Lake toward Frenchman's Bar. There were many herons in the
rookery out that way, and a bald eagle was on the nest along the river.
Canada and Snow Goose were out and about, and Tundra Swans were in the
fields as well. Many Mew Gulls were in the fields too, but few
individuals of other gull species. The road is in reasonably good shape;
at only one point does it become rocky (one lane of rocks and mud path,
but no pavement) but there are some car eating chuckholes. Western
Grebes are still hunting near the big barn just outside of Vancouver
(before Vanalco). A very enjoyable 30 minutes. RK
