Jerry,
There are people in this newsgroup who can give you a more
technical answer than I can, but I can assure you that birds are very
color sensitive, otherwise you wouldn't see so many species with bright
mating plumages.
Surprisingly, if you are in the middle of a field, in reasonably
close to matching colors, and aren't casting a shadow, most birdswon't
see you if you don't move. It's usually you facial skin tones that clues
them in!
