A short while ago several tweeters noted that the Siskin hoards disappeared
during the cold snap. Our feeder was back in action today, with about a
hundred. Siskins climbing in to the holes in the feeders, gleaning from the
rhodies, drinking from the lilly pond and chasing each other with true siskin
ferocity. Seemed to have a fresh coat of yellow on the wing bars. I like to
think its the same flock as before the freeze, based on a "marker" bird; one
American goldfinch who is also beginning to get dressed up for the season.
But of course, I don't know if its the same flock or just a goldfinch that
hooks up with any Siskin companionship it can find.
