Once while bow hunting in a stand along a fence line, I was in full
camo with bow in hand, a Flicker landed on my upper arm, in their
characteristic position, ready to hammer! I was quite startled but did not
react, and was able to remain motionless. His head was alighned with my
shoulder, he cocked his head twice and left. I was glad he didn't consider
me dead wood and go for the grubs!

I think both motion and clothing are important. If you sit
motionless in full camo after about 10 min you are no longer a visitor in
the woods, you become part of it, just another stump or rock. However I have
been in full bow hunting camo and positioned above eyelevel,(in a tree), and
have Ruffed Grouse walk under me. If literally you wiggle one finger, and I
have intentionally tested this, they will see that and become very nervous.
They will fly to the nearest branch and cluck and cluck in alarm. In camo I
don't believe they see you as a human, but they know something is amiss.
