Mike Waller asked about birding spots, etc for when he goes down to =
visit the new wing at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

You might want to check out the March 1996 copy of "Sunset" Magazine. =
It has a 5-page spread on the aquarium, as well as 3 pages following it =
up on "Exploring the heart of the nation's largest marine sanctuary". =
There's also a coarse-scale map of the area. All of the following info =
comes from pages 76-83, as I've never been....

It advertises 'quick bay tours' by two companies:
Chris' Fishing Trips (408-375-5951) and Randy's Fishing Trips 372-7440 =
have 2-hour trips.

Nancy Black's Monterey Bay Whalewatch (375-4658) offers a "three hour =
tour", and notes that Shearwater Journeys has done pelagics.

Just west of Stanford U's Hopkins Marine Station, there is a trail along =
4 miles of shoreline. The first 3 miles winds thru the oceanside =
gardens of Pacific Grove's shoreline park, ending up near Point Pinos =
(reported good tidepooling). Just beyond is Asilomar State Beach, =
which, from the text sounds like a sandy beach area. =20

About 8 miles north of Monterey is Marina state beach, where the state =
is restoring some dunes vegetation. A boardwalk trail thru the dunes =
offers a chance to see some Snowy Plover.

There's a regional visitor's guide available from the Monterey Peninsula =
Visitor's Bureau at 649-1770.

The only birds in any of the photos in the article are of Western and =
Heermann's Gulls. Best I can do, Mike. Hope this helps. =20
