This might be an easy one for somebody. What kind of owl (I assume it is an
owl) would be flying around in the middle of the night, over typical
Seattle-urban 'East Side' wooded hillsides uttering short screeches (~1 sec)
at ~10-12 second intervals? Barn, great horned, screech, or something else?
This is the Eastgate area.

It sounds like a barn, though short and a little less raspy; a little soft
for great horned though similar to those noises young birds make; and not
sure what a screech might make in flight. There are great horned and screech
around the neighborhood sometimes, though haven't heard them hooting/tooting
for a couple of years, and there are barn owls a short distance away around
the south end of Lake Sammamish and this side of Issaquah. This has been
going on every night this past week, usually between midnight - 0200am.
Sounds like I might be a bit of a 'night owl' myself, huh. The bird always
seems to be 'commuting' to or from somewhere, just passing over on a direct
course, usually from north to south, but I haven't been able to detect a
silhouette against the glowing Seattle night sky. Maybe it's justa northern
hawk owl, no? <g> Thanks. --Richard
