Last year a friend mentioned seeing many large black birds
roosting in trees along the north bank of the Snohomish River at
Snohomish, just east of the Highway 9 bridge. I finally made it
there yesterday and counted 78 Double-crested Cormorants in the
trees (all on the river side of the trees) and more birds arriving
as I left about 6 pm. Heaven knows how long theyve been roosting
there, but I rarely saw even single cormorants that far up the river
in my 15 years there (1970-85). Below is an attempt at a text map.
Excuses in advance as it is my first such attempt! -- **** marks
the spot.
