Just to let people know when and if these birds have been seen lately:

I headed north yesterday to check out the Great Grey. I first arrived at
Ovenell Rd. around noon, and checked it out in case he was hunting or
roosting in sight. No owl. I drove out to the airport as well. There
were two very active redtails in the area and a third in a tree. Someone
later told me that he had heard the owl lost a few feathers in a brush
with a redtail a few days ago, so maybe the bird was hiding.

Drove over to Hastie Lake Rd. and scanned the Sound for two hours. This
was the first time (don't laugh) that my birding partner and I had used a
scope on the Sound. Wow! Saw a wonderful pair of oldsquaws and many
harlequin ducks. Also, scoters, lots of horned grebes and a pair of
red-breasted mergansers. No sign of the eider. A gentleman also looking
for the eider said his friend had seen it Tuesday, though, so we probably
just missed it. Still, not a bad day for seeing other sea ducks.

Returned to Ovenell from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm but the owl was not sighted.

Good luck!
