Julie, this topic came up once before. People have heard anecdotes but so far I
haven't met anyone face to face who has seen an eagle allow itself to be drowned
by its fish. I heard of fish being caught with eagle skeletons attached to them
(??!!), and I have heard what seemed to me reliable accounts of seeing an eagle
flounder in the water after striking a fish and having to swim ashore. Raptors
are stimulated to grip harder when their prey squirms and pulls away, but they
are still able to voluntarily release their grips. Awaiting further word...
