About 20 or so folks (at least that's how many have told me they were there)
saw the Hoary Redpoll just east of Moscow over the weekend. There were
several large conventions of birders observing the birds in question and the
general concensus now is one Hoary Redpoll, one problem bird with Hoary
characteristics that's just too close to call, and 18 Common Redpolls. The
birds have been present since Dec. 13 so you probably still have a chance to
see them (I saw them yesterday but today is just too cold and windy for me
to go looking...).

Take Idaho 8 east in Moscow. From the traffic light at the Eastside
Marketplace, continue east 1.3 miles to Lenville Road (mile post 4.4). Turn
left, north and follow the gravel road into the farm. Take the first left
and park near the greenhouses. Check *all* the birches in the arboretum
area that's just east of the greenhouses. The arboretum extends north about
0.25 mile and there are a few birch trees at the very end the birds favor.

Also in the area is a roosting Northern Saw-whet Owl. It has also been in
the neighborhood since Dec 13 and I did see it this morning. Call me if
you're interested. 208-883-0943.
