This is the irregular report of the West Seattle Chapter of the Bushtit
Research Bunch.

The "West Seattle Heard" was in fact, just that on Tuesday. At around
9:30 AM, I looked out my side window, which faces north, on to the vant
lot next door. I saw on the ground what I first though would be a shrew
or mouse, in that it was small and grayish. Grabing my binoculars, I was
suprised to see that it was a Bushtit. Then I noticed that the entire
herd was in the grass, about 30 birds. I can't ever remember seeing
Bushtits feeding on the ground in this way before. I have seen
Golden-crowned Kinglets doing this in Discovery Park.

They were working over each blade of grass as they would a shrub. By the
way, the nearest shrub was about 30 feet away.
